Pathogen Information

Clubroot is cause by a protist known as Plasmodiophora brassicae. Thriving in wet acidic soils symptoms include:

  • Swollen club shaped roots
  • Yellowing leaves that wilt on warmer days
  • Stunted growth in the devlopement

Environmental Conditions

  • Temperature: 70-75°F is the ideal temp range
  • Soil: Moist and acidic
  • Most effected species: Plants belonging to the cabbage family

Prevention Methods

  • Remove weeds that are suseptable such as charlock and wild radish
  • Maintain proper plant spacing and good drainage
  • Remove and destroy infected plant debris
  • Rotate crops with non-susceptible plants
  • a pH avobe 7 can inhibt growth
