Verticillium Wilt

Common Plant Fungal Disease

Pathogen Information

Verticillium wilt is cause by Verticillium dahliae or Verticillium albo-atrum. it can lay dormant in the soil for years infecting a new host plant withe the following symtoms:

  • yellowing, wilting commonly effecting one side of the plant
  • Vascular discolorations can leaves, stems, and fruits
  • Most symptoms will appear on one side of the plant until the plant dies

Environmental Conditions

  • Temperature: 70-80°F
  • Humidity:Thrives in moist soil
  • Most effected species: Asteraceae, Brassicaceae, and Solanaceous

Prevention Methods

  • Maintain proper plant spacing
  • Remove and destroy infected plant debris
  • Use disease-free seeds and resistant varieties
  • Rotate crops with non-susceptible plants
