History
Carrots were not bred for the roots but rather the seeds and aromatics of the flowers dating back over 2000 years. while it is believe the romans first noted it for the roots in the 1st century it is unclear if it was parsnips or carrots. In the 900s in what is modern day afganistan it was bred selectively for the roots producing red, yellow, and even purple roots. the modern sweet root that is known today was bred in the 1700s by selectively breeding yellow and red carrot until the viberant orange color came about.

Soil Conditions

Sandy Loam soil.
Water

1 inch of water per week.
Water the plants when the topsoil is dry to the touch.
Nutrients

5-10-10
Potassium and phosphorus aid in root growth.
pH

6.0-7.0
Plant care
Sowing Seeds
Before planting clear out about 1 foot down of all rocks and debris from the area. Plant seeds 1/4" to a 1/2" deep and space them 2 to 3 inches apart. Cover with straw to help retain moisture.
Germination
Seeds can take 2 to 3 weeks to germinate
Once the plants have grow about 2 inches tall thin out any over crowded plants. Water the soil after to help it settle back around the plants.
Pruning
Pruning is not required. Remove any carrots that are infeceted to prevent disease from spreaading to healthy plants.
Harvest
Watch for the shoulder of the carrot, the part where the green meets the top of the carrot. They are ready once the should is about 1 inch thick and breaching the surface.
Growing Tips
A light frost can improve the crispness of the carrots.
Carrots can take a while to sprout keep the soil moist during this time.
