Squash was cultivated over 10,0000 years ago in modern day mexico. They are carbohydrate rich and hold well in colder month making it crucial to the survival of native tribes. spreading to europe during the columbus exchage it quickly caught on for culinary and ornimental use.

Plant care
Sowing Seeds
Build mounds of soil 2 to 3 feet apart. Plant seeds about 1 inch apart and cover with straw.
Germination
Seeds can take 7 to 14 days for germination. keep soil moist during this time.
Pruning
Squash has hollow stems. cut back to the main branch to prevent pest and diseases from entering the plant.
Remove any leaves that are touching the soil and thin out over crowded leaves
Harvest
Summer squash are harvest ed when they are immature usually less then 6 inches long.
Winter squash are ready when they have changed colors and the skins have become firm.
Growing Tips
Once you remove the straw from the base add mulch to the soil to help retain moisture.
