History
Native to north america the sunflower had many uses amongst the tribe. having a thick stalk it would be used as building material, dye, food and medince. the seeds were used to make a purple dye and cooking oil. With a colorful head it quickly spread through europe as an ornmental and edible flower.

Soil Conditions

Clay Loam soil.
Can grow in a wide rangwe of soil types
Water

1 to 2 inches of water per week.
Water the plants when the topsoil is dry to the touch.

10-10-5 for vegitation
5-10-10 for flowering

Plant care
Sowing Seeds
plant seeds 1 to 2 inches deep and space them 6 to 12 inches apart(space farther for largers heads). Cover with straw to help retain moisture.
Germination
Germination can take 5 to 12 days keep the soil moist during this time.
Pruning
Prune any side shoots to allow enery to focus on the main head for single stem growth.
Pinching of the top can result in smaller heads from side shoots. prun the lower leaves to allowe for airflow.
Harvest
Once the flower head begin to turn brown and droop the seed are ready to harvest. Cut the heads off and allow them to dry for a few days. Once the head are fully brown the seeds will drop out as you run your hand across the head.
Growing Tips
Sunflowers will track the sun in there younger life but once they have matured the stalk stiffen and not track the sun.
